My friend and I was going to KLIA to catch up our plane, that however turns out we arrived very early, 3 hours early. We ride in a red and white Malaysian taxi, Mr. King's taxi.
Right after we enter the taxi, my friend told Mr. King that he fetch us quite early and he replied "Yes, I'd better early than to be late. I always serves my customer like this.". Then our journey continues with him telling about bad and good taxi drivers, why sometimes they can't get customers, and a lot more about taxi.
The good thing about the taxi driver is they actually depends on a system called MyTeksi whereby if customers call or texts or mail to the system for service then the system will notify the nearest taxi available to fetch. The taxi driver will then have to accept if decline depends on their availability.
My friend asked (as I just listen and remain silent) if they ever got a customer who need their service but when the taxi got to the said place and the customer already gone, he replied "yes. but we can't really blame them as they might want to travel earlier or they forgot something or whatsoever.".
Upon 15 minutes of our arrival at KLIA, the taxi driver told us that he is newly drove taxi to support his family, he was an Outlet Manager for a local restaurant. Being said that, my friend continue to ask why, what happen to him. He then told us his story.
The Good Time
The outlet he was working in is owned by a very talented chef, who happen to be his close friend also. The manager or chef is a very generous man, he even support Mr. King's mother medical fee when she was admitted to a hospital. The restaurant runs very smooth and business is very good.
The sad story
He said probably in a very wrong time to be an outlet manager. One day, while driving, the restaurant owner fell asleep and had an accident. The accident killed him instantly. That was a very surprising news for the whole company. The junior 'chef' tries to get a hold of the outlet for four months. But unfortunately, he can't get their customer satisfied. The outlet was closed.
Unemployed
Mr. King was unemployed for five months. During that time, he has sold his car, house and everything he have to keep survived. In KL, expenses are higher and Mr. King tried to find a job but some company are racist to him as he is an Indian (I can't believe it either!) and finding job is really, really, really hard. He was just married at the time of the outlet fall.
Early Work after the fall
He then tried many kind of works he can take. He became a lorry driver, a general worker, whatsoever that require him to start work from down below his last title.
Taxi & Life After
He then tried to drive taxi and that could be his opportunities to raise some money and keep some for his two daughters. He also told us that his wife cannot continues her Diploma studies. She was very good in accounts subject, but her parents don't want her to continue on accounts, very unfortunate. However, now Mr. King continue his life and accept everything he faced. The most important thing to him is that, he can support his family and watch his daughters grow up success.
Well, that's Mr. Kind a.k.a Raja's story. His story is actually opened my eyes, again, to know that life is not really that simple. Life in real world is very hard. When you are on top of whatever you are doing right now then suddenly fall down to the very basic of the beginning of your step, never gives up because there are a lot thing to be learned again, maybe things that we've missed.
